Where do I even begin? Traveling from Zimbabwe, I had planned four bridal fittings in Joburg, with Bridal rdrobe as my last stop. By then, after trying on over 25 dresses, I felt completely disheartened. Nothing had made me stop and think, this is the one.
Then I met Kayleigh — and everything changed. She didn’t just bring dresses to the fitting room; she listened. She asked me what I liked, what I didn’t, and took in every detail. Then she asked me something no one else had: ‘Is there a dress in your head that you’re trying to beat?’ I showed her, and from that moment I felt seen.
My little tribe of three and I browsed the racks, each choosing a dress or two. I asked Kayleigh to pick one herself, and without hesitation she replied, ‘I will.’
Behind the curtain, as she pegged the dress on me, I immediately noticed the fabric — it s exactly what I had been searching for. Unsure whether I liked the overall look, I ed out, ‘Who picked this?!’ My girls, not knowing what I had on, each muttered, ‘Not me.’ Kayleigh, standing firm, simply said, ‘I did.’
No frills. No glitter. No sequins. No excess tulle. Just elegance. At first, I sn’t sure about the neckline — unlike anything I had seen before — but then I discovered the pockets (a big bonus!). When the curtain opened, there were gasps and quiet ‘wows’ from my family. Kayleigh simply folded her arms and let me take in the moment.
When I finally turned to the mirror, I understood what they were seeing. The dress s plain yet striking. Understated yet full of detail. And the fabric and quality were unmatched. For the first time in all my fittings, I asked to try on a veil. As Kayleigh spread it out, I heard a soft sob and turned to see my mum in tears. That s the moment it all became real.
I asked whether I still needed to try on the other dresses we had picked — and that’s when I knew. I finally understood: it isn’t about what the dress looks like, it’s about how it makes you feel.
