From start to finish we enjoyed the tasting and the hummus with crudites and bread. Perfect to enjoy the tasting with our favourite wines of South Africa.
We were welcomed upon arrival and we sat outside overlooking the pond which s beautiful. Ryan, who gave our tasting, s friendly, knowledgeable and such a pleasure to meet. The tasting and food s a reasonable price.
A controversial comment but the only thing that ruined the time s a couple who left their very young children to run around screaming at the ducks. An adult only area would be perfect, thankfully one of the staff did ask the parents to control their children which s a relief so we could enjoy the time again.
Spier is by far our favourite vineyard to visit and I hope to go back one day.
Had a great tasting experience at Spier, especially the Winemaker Selection which s excellent. The estate is beautiful and easy to enjoy, with plenty of bathrooms and lots of parking available. It can get busy at peak times, but the service still holds up well. A solid stop for anyone exploring the area.
Wow!
Absolutely amazing 👏 The picnic baskets are a dream - we had an absolute feast with our 2 adult picnic baskets and a delight for our son, who had the kiddies basket. By far the best picnic cuisine we've had 🌈
The views=stunning!
Service/staff=rm and incredibly accommodating. We had assumed the establishment accepted cash and informed whilst purchasing wine that only card payments are accepted (we had not brought our cards - an oversight on our end). We were accomodated for none the less.
Thank you Spier for an unforgettable experience on our summer holiday. This one will be one for the books❤️
Incase it sn't clear in my review so far: Spier Wine Estate Picknikery is an absolute MUST!
1. Variety of Tasting Options
• They have a solid “Spier Tasting” that gives you a good cross-section: Signature wines plus premium ranges like 21 Gables, Creative Block, and Seaward.
• For something more fun / indulgent, there’s a chocolate & wine pairing.
• If you’re into organic and more terroir-driven wines, their Organic Wine Tasting is great: six wines that reflect their regenerative farming.
• There’s even a wine blending experience, which is really cool for a group or for people who nt a hands-on feel.
2. Atmosphere & Setting
• The tasting room is light-filled, airy, and overlooks a dam, so it’s very relaxing.
• There’s a terrace with lovely views (Helderberg mountains + dam), which makes it a very scenic place to sip wine.
• They also have platters (cheese, charcuterie, olives) which pair really well with the tasting.
3. Sustainability & Ethos
• Spier is serious about regenerative farming and long-term environmental stewardship.
• Their approach feels authentic: they’re not just “green-shing” — they invest in soil health, biodiversity, and community.
• This adds a deeper layer to the tasting: when you taste their wine, you’re also tasting a philosophy of sustainability.
4. Good for Different Types of Visitors
• Whether you’re a wine newbie or more experienced, there’s something for you.
• The farm is family-friendly: they have a grape-juice tasting for kids.
• There are extra activities (e.g., Segway tours) if you nt to make your visit more than just wine tasting.
5. Well-Run Tasting Room & Good Service
• According to their website, the tasting space is well designed, and staff are likely knowledgeable (given the variety of tasting options).
• The platters, the setting, and the wine list suggest they take the visitor experience seriously.
We had the most delightful lunch at the restaurant. Reservation required. Had steak cut of the day, salads, chicken and chips. Served by Claudia who provided exceptional service. She s so wonderful and attentive. Would recommend this place!
Two years since we last visited and what a transformation- stunning wine farm and absolutely beautiful surrounds - the ice cream bar is to die for and the cowshed retail shop fantastic - it’s all super! Pizza / bakery and the wine tasting room has always been a must- definitely recommend - great place to visit or stay
Spier Wine Farm and Hotel is a truly exceptional destination and this special milestone birthday stay felt nothing short of magical. We were originally booked into a regular king room but were generously upgraded, on a complimentary basis, to the Chestnut Suite, which s spacious, comfortable and beautifully appointed for a special celebration.
From arrival to departure, every interaction with the team s a pleasure; staff greeted us with genuine smiles, thoughtful attention and a feeling of real care at every touchpoint.
The food s consistently excellent and beautifully presented, perfectly complemented by Spier’s wines, and the Segway and picnic experiences added a fun, memorable y to enjoy the farm.
The scenery is breathtaking, with vineyards, lawns and mountain views creating a sense of calm that encourages you to slow down and simply enjoy being there.
Knowing the estate’s history stretches back to 1692 makes the experience feel even more special, and it is easy to see why Spier continues to capture guests’ hearts century after century.

So beautiful and well put together. We preordered the picnic basket and it s so delicious! Many nice spots you can find in the garden.
Visited Spier Wine Farm on Saturday with my family. Really beautiful place and very well maintained. You can see the attention to detail all around the farm. One thing that really caught my attention s the stones that start humming when you bring your hands close to them — something very unique. Overall a great experience and definitely worth visiting.
We tried Spier because of the tons of negative reviews on the “famous” wineries and s an amazing experience! Thanks we found them. We had great time here and you can spend your full day with family and kids. You will find friendly and receptive staff, entrance control and parking, amazing food and good price. Good wine and bakery. Toilets are very clean and the property has also many art pieces and exhibitions.
